30,000 Lbs of Lobster Tails Stolen

Warehouse Skids Holding Cases of Lobster Tails

Several hundred thousand dollars worth of lobster tails were stolen from a warehouse in Medley last week. The initial owner of the lobster tails is going on the offensive and offering a big reward. There are many seafood warehouses in South Florida because it’s a gateway to Latin and South America. Nearly 30,000 pounds — or $658,000 worth — of Celebrity Frozen Rock Lobster Tails were stolen on Sept. 25. Officials said if the lobster had been sold off a restaurant menu, that much lobster could be worth close to $1.5 million. “The driver took the load, parked the truck, eight hours later called back and claimed that the truck was stolen,” the owner of Preferred Freezer, Mika Cara, said. Cara said he thinks it was an inside job. He said he thinks an independent trucker hired an independent driver to steal the lobster. He said it’s not the first time something like this has happened. “This isn’t the first time,” Cara said. “It’s a trait of Miami. There seems to be a lot of robberies in Miami where they park the trucks and the trucks get stolen.” Cara said he is not happy with police action, either. He said despite several interviews, there have been no arrests. He has put up a $25,000 reward for information leading to the arrest of the truck thief.
