Big Lobster Caught In British Creel

9 lb lobster along side 1 lb lobster
A creel fisherman has caused a bit of a stir in shellfish circles after landing a whopper of a lobster. John Cameron was stunned to find the 9 pound specimen when he hauled up one of his lobster creels off his home port of Lybster, England. About 19 inches long, it weighed in about four times the average lobster catch. Mr Cameron (52) was out in his 19ft Wick-registered boat Ocean Bride. His monster lobster was the star of the latest consignment from the port taken by Macduff-based Deveron Shellfish. Mr Cameron, who also runs a boat-building and repair business, is unaware where the lobster ended up. It is thought most likely to have gone to a restaurant in Europe. The Fisheries Research Services’ marine laboratory at Torry is unaware of any specific records kept for creel catches of lobster. The world record for European lobster is a 20 pound lobster caught during reconstruction work at a jetty off Fowey in Cornwall in 1931.
