Commcercial Lobster Fishing Licence
|
| On February 12, 2008 in Corner Brook Provincial Court, Mr. Wilfred Strickland of Frenchman’s Cove was fined $1,000 for possession of egg bearing female lobster. He was also fined $500 for fishing lobster without a licence and $500 for possession of cod caught in contravention of the Fisheries Act. Mr. Strickland’s dory and outboard motor were forfeited to the Crown. All lobster seized were returned to the water. Mr. Strickland was prohibited for five years from participating in any type of fishing, possessing any fishing license and from being on any boat operating in Canadian waters, except for paid passage on a commercial vessel. On October 22, 2007, fishery officers from the Rocky Harbour Detachment, while on surveillance in the Frenchman’s Cove area, apprehended Mr. Strickland and found him to be in possession of 13 lobster, two of which were egg bearing female lobster, and cod. DFO encourages the reporting of poaching activity and reminds the public that buying or possessing illegally caught lobster or cod is a violation of the Fisheries Act and punishable in a court of law. DFO is committed to the conservation of our fishery resources. |
