A lobster man lost his license to catch crustaceans after pleading guilty Monday to stealing, then fishing from someone else’s traps off New Castle. Philip Nute, 60, of 10 Hidden Valley Road, Dover, appeared in Portsmouth District Court on a New Hampshire Fish and Game charge of possessing someone else’s traps without permission. According to an affidavit filed with the court by Conservation Officer William Boudreau, another lobster man was pulling his traps off Fort Stark on Oct. 19 when he found Nute’s buoys wrapped around his trap trawls. The lobster man reported that Nute’s buoys were attached to a line which was spliced in a manner unique to the lobster man. When the lobster man pulled the lines attached to Nute’s buoys, he discovered his own handmade traps attached, all with his initials on the parlor sections. The judge imposed a $500 fine with a $100 penalty assessment and ordered that Nute’s lobstering license be revoked for one year.
