New Species of Spiny Lobster Discovered

Cape Town South Africa’s marine scientists have just discovered a new species of giant spiny lobster. Although the genetics of the lobster show that it is a new species, scientists say it may already have been exploited to the brink of extinction by fishermen mistaking it for another species of spiny lobster. The lobster that was caught weighed in at a massive 9 lbs and was the third new species of lobster discovered in the last 12 years. The new species has been named Palinurus barbarae in honor of the discoverer’s wife Barbra who was a math teacher, and died of cancer at age 30. “I’m very glad that I could name it after her. She was a brave and beautiful woman” He said.
