
Giant Tasmanian King Crab
The Giant Tasmanian Crab is the largest of all Australian crabs and second only in size to the giant King Crab found off Japan. It has a white shell and claws that are splashed with orange and red. This particular species of crab is is commercially fished, and considered a delicacy. It is reasonably plentiful between 90 and 150 meters depth in Bass Strait and off the eastern coast of Tasmania. It can weigh over 28 pounds and measure 14 inches across the body, and have giant pincers measuring more than 18 inches.
