A traffic stop helped crack an illegal commercial seafood operation and bring a charge against the business owner, Maryland Natural Resources Police said Wednesday. The NRP on Sunday charged 31-year-old Michael Shane Shockley of Preston with operating a commercial seafood business without a license. The charge resulted from an investigation launched after an August traffic stop involving a seafood truck with an expired registration plate, according to an NRP report. In addition, a check of Tidal Fish License identification numbers on the truck came back invalid, the report said. A commercial licensee must display TFL identification numbers on every vessel, vehicle, piece of gear or place of business used in commercial activity.
