You are what you eat!

Everyone has heard the phrase “you are what you eat”. It’s valid to a degree for humans, but for the American Lobster, it couldn’t ring more true. Lobsters eat more lobster than anything! 18% of a lobster’s diet consists of other lobsters. The lobster’s second favorite food is the crab (it is attracted to this food source because of it’s strong odor) and during molting season, lobsters will seek out sea urchins and sea stars to dine on because they are very high in calcium, and help the newly molted lobster harden it’s new shell. Some speculate the reason lobster tastes so good, is because they are so cannibalistic, and that “lobster fed lobsters” may be a sales angle in years to come.

Live lobsters that are held in tanks must be banded for the safety of the customer as well as the other lobsters.
